早在新石器時代晚期，縣境內(nèi)就有先民在此繁衍生息。春秋屬吳地，戰(zhàn)國屬楚，秦、漢先后屬九江、豫章、廬陵郡廬陵縣。至北宋至和元年（1054），始建永豐縣。縣治在報恩鎮(zhèn)（今恩江鎮(zhèn)），是全縣的政治、經(jīng)濟(jì)、文化、教育的中心。

As early as the late Neolithic period, there were ancestors living and reproducing here in the county. The Spring and Autumn period belongs to the Wu region, the Warring States period belongs to Chu, and the Qin and Han dynasties successively belong to Jiujiang, Yuzhang, and Luling counties. In the first year of the Zhihe reign of the Northern Song Dynasty (1054), Yongfeng County was first established. The county seat is located in Bao'en Town (now Enjiang Town), which is the political, economic, cultural, and educational center of the entire county.

永豐歷史上人才輩出，俊杰薈萃。歷代進(jìn)士共計293人，其中狀元4人，榜眼1人，探花2人。他們或樹德建功，或著述立說，與廬陵的其他奇才俊士，共同書寫了廬陵文化的壯麗篇章。

第二次國內(nèi)革命戰(zhàn)爭時期，永豐是中央蘇區(qū)全紅縣之一，是東固革命根據(jù)地、贛西南革命根據(jù)地、中央蘇區(qū)的重要組成部分。在毛澤東等領(lǐng)導(dǎo)下，永豐軍民取得了反第一、二、三次大“圍剿”的偉大勝利。

During the Second Civil Revolutionary War, Yongfeng was one of the Red Counties in the Central Soviet Area and an important component of the Donggu Revolutionary Base, the Southwest Jiangxi Revolutionary Base, and the Central Soviet Area. Under the leadership of Mao Zedong and others, the military and civilians of Yongfeng achieved great victories against the first, second, and third major "encirclement and suppression" campaigns.
